Textured hair extensions bring a unique structure and personality that, when handled thoughtfully, can transform into a smooth style without compromising its integrity. Creating a smooth look requires more than just technique; it’s about using the right products and methods to retain moisture, protect against frizz, and keep the curls healthy and vibrant. This approach to smoothing textured hair not only tames the look but also enhances its natural beauty, adding a luxurious finish.

Below, Covet & Mane Founder Dafina Smith shows how she achieves a smooth and polished look while wearing textured hair extensions.

Step 1: Prepare the Hair

Before you begin, make sure your hair is clean, dry, and has a layer of heat protectant. Applying heat to dirty or damp hair can cause more damage, and textured hair is already more fragile, so don't forget (or rush) to do this step.

Step 2: Create Even Sections

When working with textured hair, make sure you consider where the rows are placed so you don't disturb them. When sectioning hair, ensure each one is neat, even, and clean. This will contribute to the overall polished look.

Step 3: Curl and Set

Heat up your curling iron to the desired temperature. Remember, the right amount of heat is essential for manipulating the hair’s shape effectively.

Take small sections of hair and curl them using the curling iron. Hold each curl for a few seconds to set the shape or, wrap the curls and hold them in place with pins while waiting for them to cool down. This is a crucial step to ensure the curls hold throughout the day. Giving your hair enough time to cool down is key!

Step 4: Repeat on the Other Side

Now that you’ve curled one side, it’s time to work on the other side. Follow the steps 2 and 3 to achieve the desired smoothness and polish.

Step 5: Brush The Curls Down

Once your whole head is cool, gently remove the pins. Using a brush or comb, carefully brush out the hair in each section. Aim for a smooth and polished appearance, getting rid of any tangles or knots. From here, you'll already see the polished effect you're creating, and although you're not finished yet, your hair transformation is already taking place.

Step 6: Apply Some Hairspray

For smooth curls that will actually last, spritz hairspray to set the whole look in place. You wouldn't want your new smooth look to only last for half an hour, right?

Remember, the key to achieving this polished look is a combination of proper curling techniques, allowing the curls to cool, and meticulous sectioning for even rows. With these steps, you’ll be able to confidently rock a stunning and refined hairstyle that’s sure to turn heads wherever you go.
